Anyways, on Monday we took a tour of the island and got to know where different buildings were, etc... Later on that day we split up into two different groups and went hiking! The group I was with went to Auger Falls and Watchill and the other group went to Good Luck Mountain. They weren't terribly hard, but Watchill had a couple of "challenging" moments. It was a good first hike though, getting ready for other hikes throughout the summer. That night we also had a campfire and sang some songs. I've been learning a lot of "Tap" songs - catchy and fun! :)
Besides hiking I've been doing a lot of training. I am now certified in Wilderness First Aid, Waterfront Lifeguarding, and I recerted my CPR/AED. Also we've been going through our manuals as a group learning how the camp will run this summer.
On Wednesday we had the opportunity to hike up Panther Mountain early in the morning and make breakfast at the top! We brought a piece of fruit and bagels with us but cooked eggs over a fire and boiled water for hot chocolate or tea! That was a fun experience! The view was absolutely fantastic!
Last Saturday I went out to the island to help clean it up a bit for campers. Three other girls and I put up the floaty dock and set up the swimming buoys for the swim area. It took us almost all afternoon and we were starting to get hypothermic - that may be a slight exageration, but not really. :P The water was soo cold! The weather up here is pretty unpredictable - it'll be sunny one minute and rain the next! The other night we even got hail! It's still too cold for me, but I'll live!
This whole week has been a great reminder for me that I can't do anything except by God's grace! I'm so excited as to what else I will learn this summer!
Well, I best be off for now and head to dinner!
Much love to you all! :)
P.S. Tomorrow we're moving to the island! Hooray! :)
